Long story short: My hair is originally dark brown. I got highlights in October. I dyed it dark brown yesterday. It turned black. I washed my hair 15 times (I kept count) today. What can I use? I can't go to the store. My parents aren't home and I can't drive. I need my hair to be faded by tomorrow.
Dont use peroxide!!! The chemical will react to the dye and turn it god knows what color. Head and shoulders works if you have any, but unfortunately only time will fade the color. Check the box to see if its a permanent color or semi-permanent. If its permanent you need to visit a colorist as they will be able to reverse the process. If its semi permanent it will fade in about a week. Don't try to wash it out by shampooing too much. You'll strip the natural oils and dry out your hair and then you have another problem on your hands.

If it hasn't faded after 15 washes since yesterday, it isn't going to, unfortunately. I am guessing that the hair color you used is permanent....there is a reason it is called that :)
Contact the phone number on the box of color and see what they suggest.
Take the battery out of your dads car tip it over and rub it all over. Either it will lighten your hair color or burn your scalp off!!
if you have a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your house try using some of that...it will gradually fade your hair
if it's honestly black, like the box had a number 1 on it, your not going to be able to fade it. The only thing you can do is keep washing it. However even bleaching black out of your hair is a task and i would NEVER recommend trying it on your own, trust me you will end up orange and red and black and all sorts of colors that you will end up outting black right over to cover it up.

peroxide will remove the black dye but it'll probably make your hair really dry. what you should do is buy a hair color remover such as COLOR OOPS, which can be found at any drugstore or you can buy COLOR ZAP which can be purchased at any beauty supply store. I would suggest using COLOR OOPS because it's less damaging to your hair since it contains no ammonia or bleach. both of these products are around $12. after you use the hair color remover you can dye your hair but since your hair will be porous you should dye it a lighter color than you want because it will come out darker. using a household item might be more convenient but you should use the proper hair products in order to get the best results and to prevent hair damage.
also if you do choose to use peroxide just know your hair will turn orange which means you'll have to go out and buy hair dye anyways.
on dawn goes lesbian there was one of the women from the bar with bright pink hair dye on the top layer and black or really really really really really dark brown hair. does anyone have any pictures of that or similar? thanks hopefully

Get a Rat tail comb and pick up thin sections of her hair, where you want the highlight. Then slid the foil underneith the section and then just paint on the bleach, Then fold the end of the foil over your hair....
You have to be careful with the bleach, You could end up with No hair...It's better to let a Salon or a Hairstylist do it...They know what they're doing.

An excellent shampoo is Ken Pave's (Walgreens) it's in a blueberry colored plastic bottle and it leaves the hair very well conditioned and very shiny. (I don't like their heavy conditioners though). Their shampoo has no sodium lauryl sulfate so it prevents fading.

You should never go more than 2 shades darker or lighter than your natural colour as it will not suit your colouring and won't look very natural. It would take a lot of work to get your black hair bleach blonde and would probably leave it in a bad condition. Also you would have to get your roots touched up every couple of weeks as your natural hair colour will look very noticeable when it starts to grow back through. Also, if you have dark hair you will have dark lashes and eyebrows which are not a good look with bleach blonde hair.
If I were you I would go for a dark chocolate brown or a rich red, these will suit you much better. If you go to a good salon the stylist should discuss your requirements and find a colour they think will work well for you.
Up to you at the end of the day, but I think you will regret it if you get your hair bleached! Good luck!

Make sure you go to a salon to get it done. I think if you have a tanned colouring it can look quite stunning especially for the summer (what summer!). Make sure you put plenty of hair product in it so it doesn't look dried out.
well it be certainly be expensive if you go to a reputable salon who understands the chemistry of proper colour correction. if your hair is currently coloured then they will first have to use colour remover to remove the artificial pigment from your hair (this is different to bleach as it oxidises the hair, it doesn't strip it of natural pigment) then once the colour is removed you will THEN have to be bleached and then toned.
I have almost black hair and used to have it bleached professionally (don't ask why) it used to take about three and a half hours and the colour was never platinum more corn and when it got wet it was like elastic bands. If you have never done it before go for it but believe me it takes a lot of looking after and the black roots appear after about a week. It costs a bomb to have it done properly by a good colourist, I am taking 120 pounds a good four years ago.

black to bleach blonde will be way drastic.. i switched from dark to champagne/honey blonde and it looked really good. so i'd advice you to go for honey blonde rather than bleach.. add highlights as well, and dont forget to dye your eyebrows the same colour!

You can.
Whenever I bleach my friends hair or my own a wild colour i sometimes use a toner, the lightest I can get so the colour is much more vibrant.
But if your going to brown you could use a brown toner (as toners cover/remove the gingery, orangey colour). Leave that to set for the required time and then apply your desired brown colour.
Though if you were the lucky one and didn't get any organey, gingery pigment left in the bleached hair. Then you can go ahead and dye it brown.
Just make sure you use a deep conditionor, so it fixes up damaged ends etc

My natural hair color is a light to med brown, i dyed it black a while ago, and now want to get it back to my natural color. i tried to dye it last night, and all that changed were the roots to a redish color. i need help! i really cant afford much and i know that hair stripping is very expensive. plus my hair already is damaged, pretty bad split ends... help!
to get ur real hair color your gonna have to let it grow out, the dye won't be in ur hair forever. but its gonna take a while. or you can find dye thats closest to ur natural color, but i wouldn't recommend it. Dyeing ur hair can damage it more. Really its just chemicals. I would just let it grow out. I know its frustrating, but if you want ur real color, that's what you have to do.

Well, its a tricky job...my advise, start saving your cash because it can't be done with box dye. If you do manage to, you'll have to bleach it a hundred times and your hair will be falling out.
I went to a salon and she stripped it, then added dark brown dye over top, then bleached it to put some more highlights in. She keeps adding more and more until I get the colour blonde I want, but you're only going brown so it will only take one visit!
If the black dye is permanet then you have to get your hair bleached, and then dye it blonde. Since your hair is already damaged, I wouldn't worry about the price so your hair doesn't get worse. Also, get your split ends trimmed. You can't go from dark to light just by dyeing it. With dye, you can only go from light to dark.
Dont even think about stripping. I did that and ended up bald.
If you can afford a haircut just to get rid of the split ends and check boxes of hair dye for the colors they recommend for getting your original color back. It shows you on the side of the box. Good luck.

It's colorfix. You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply Store. You might have to do it a couple times though. It depends on how long and how many times you've dyed it black too. Someone that's dyed there hair black for a year will have a hell of a lot more difficulty getting the color out then someone who's dyed there hair a week ago.

You can also bleach it...but it will turn out orange...very VERY orange.
I've done this dozens of times. I'll color my hair black and change my mind a month later. first of all YOU CAN NOT LIGHTEN DYED HAIR BY USING A LIGHTER DYE. the only way to lighten dyed hair is by bleaching it. First bleach everything but your regrowth ( the roots. new hair that isn't colored) you'll get a dark red result, bleach it again and include your roots. your roots will prob end up blond and the rest will be a light reddish orange color, then color everything with a light brown. Your hair will be very damaged after all this but at least you won't have to cut it all off. Use a heavy duty ultra moisture conditioner everyday and stay away from blow dryers and irons and you'll be able to stand it long enough till it grows out.
I've seen in the US there's this brand called Prell that everyone raves about and says gets dye out but can't seem to find an equivalent in the UK, does anyone have any suggestions on this or how to get black hair dye out at home? Don't want to go to a salon as hear it's really damaging to your hair.
You don't say what your natural colour is but if you want to remove a build up of dark tint out of your hair this is the only way to go:
1) You must go to a salon, they will use a much stronger 'stripper' than you can buy retail.
2) They will then replace the missing pigment with a red filler
3) Then you have the colour applied.
If you try to fix it yourself you could end up going green - due to not replacing the red pigment
no nothiing over the counter will wash it out, go to hairdresser but they wil have to use harsh chemicals.
do NOT use kitchen bleach it will make your hair fall out! and dont use boots own brand it made my friend hair go purple insted of brown!
Not a lot! Try using a chlorine removing shampoo regularly - it will reduce the shade a bit.

2. Pour all over damp hair
3.let it sit for 30-40 minutes
4.wash out and repeat if ness.
But as its black I think that it will just lighten it

well. the best way to get it out is to go to a salon and get your hair bleached to get all the color out and then dye it back closest to your original hair color. but when it comes to doing it at home, i dont know. but dyeing your hair, will over a period of time damage your hair. so if you want normal hair color back i would go to a salon.

Ahhhh I have that syndrom myself...I bleached my hair purple then dyed it black cause my school doesnt allow purple....I have to say that the only way to get it out is really by either waiting for it or drying it again a dark brown. Sadly its the only way out, for a quick fix.
You could also use some of those herbal products out there. Some of those have these kinda acid extracts found in lemons that make hair lighter...Or you could try with a real lemon but it'll probably burn ur scalp, and take longer.
But if ur serious about the Prell order ir online, I'd get two bottles though, since it's black dye were dealing with, or just ask for a free sample to test it.

It all depends how many layers of the dye you have put on it to how easy it's going to be to get it out. You need to start fading it out then you can recolour it.
I'd recomend Paul Mitchell Shampoo 3. It helps strip colour out . U can buy it in hairdressers that stock paul mitchell for about 鎷? also make sure your using a good rehydrating conditioner as it can dry your hair and this will help keep it healthy.

i recently had a problem with this also, what i did was buy 4 boxes of superdrug hair lightener (鎷?.50 each :D), head and shoulders (bad for dyed black hair) and a lemon.
first of all what you do is give your hair a good clean, wait 4-5 hours, and mix in teh first batch of lightener, wait and hour, rinse it out, DONT use the conditioner
again, wash lighten and wait and wash, repeat that till its a very light brownish, if its a hot day you squeeze the lemon all over your hair and stay out in the sun for as long as you can.
if not, mix it with a small batch of shampoo, say a 2/1 radtio of lemon and shampoo (lemon being the most dominant 2)
wash and slightly rinse, just be quick about it so its still in your hair, but not as sticky.
yet again, leave it in allllllllll day
and after all that and you have very lightened hair, you can finally use all of those packets of conditioner you got with the lightener, i hope this helps, it worked for me, why not you!?

i dyed my hair black a year ago and wat i used was head and shoulders as it strips the colour outta your hair. it lightens it if u keep using it, i swear this really works as it worked a treat on mine after a few washes i was a dark brown and hadlost the black tint.i got my hair dyed saturday and it came out too dark again so im off to get my head n shoulders to lighten it. try even leaving the h%26amp;s on it for a few mins before rinsingand use a deep conditioning treatment if possible. goodluck!
I've never heard of anything that can take out hair color. people etheir let the color grow out of there hair, recolor it or cut it off.
But DONT use kitchen Bleach...It was made for clothes not hair.

I used to dye my hair shades of bright red and light brown! The last time my hair was dyed, it was dyed a dark brown shade. Now my natural roots have come out at least 3 inches, and they are a very soft black that looks brown in some lighting. I also have very pale skin and dark brown eyes. I used to wear nude pink and coral lipstick and blush colors but they don't seem to suit me anymore- as a matter of fact they wash me out. I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions? my best friend and i are both filipino. we're both pretty pale and we both have black hair too (which adds to our paleness :P) we found that purple eyeshadow brought life to our skin. i use a pale pink gloss and a light peach blush so it looks like a natural flush. pinks and rose-colored blushes makes me look like i have hot flashes instead of a natural flushed look, so you should try to avoid those. just remember to be subtle with the color, dramatic colors clash with pale skin.

You should look at all the shades that MAC cosmetics have. If you're tired of pink and red-ish tones, you should try different shades of sand, beige and browns and add hints of blues, greens, and silvers/white (not all at once of course), because it can add color without it being obvious and looking unnatural. BUT test it First, OK.....
Hydrogen peroxide on your hair and sit in the SUN....
Mix 3 parts Peroxide with 1 part shampoo (Moisturizing) and apply all over your head, comb Thru and relax in the sun while it drys.

I am a Filipina who had (yes, "had") dyed my hair nearly nonstop for about 7 years before naturally growing out my hair since last December. I used to dye my hair shades of bright red and light brown! The last time my hair was dyed, it was dyed a dark brown shade. Now my natural roots have come out at least 3 inches, and they are a very soft black that looks brown in some lighting. I also have very pale skin and dark brown eyes. I used to wear nude pink and coral lipstick and blush colors but they don't seem to suit me anymore- as a matter of fact they wash me out. I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions? my best friend and i are both filipino. we're both pretty pale and we both have black hair too (which adds to our paleness :P) we found that purple eyeshadow brought life to our skin. i use a pale pink gloss and a light peach blush so it looks like a natural flush. pinks and rose-colored blushes makes me look like i have hot flashes instead of a natural flushed look, so you should try to avoid those. just remember to be subtle with the color, dramatic colors clash with pale skin.

You should look at all the shades that MAC cosmetics have. If you're tired of pink and red-ish tones, you should try different shades of sand, beige and browns and add hints of blues, greens, and silvers/white (not all at once of course), because it can add color without it being obvious and looking unnatural. Long story short: My hair is originally dark brown. I got highlights in October. I dyed it dark brown yesterday. It turned black. I washed my hair 15 times (I kept count) today. What can I use? I can't go to the store. My parents aren't home and I can't drive. I need my hair to be faded by tomorrow.
Dont use peroxide!!! The chemical will react to the dye and turn it god knows what color. Head and shoulders works if you have any, but unfortunately only time will fade the color. Check the box to see if its a permanent color or semi-permanent. If its permanent you need to visit a colorist as they will be able to reverse the process. If its semi permanent it will fade in about a week. Don't try to wash it out by shampooing too much. You'll strip the natural oils and dry out your hair and then you have another problem on your hands.

If it hasn't faded after 15 washes since yesterday, it isn't going to, unfortunately. I am guessing that the hair color you used is permanent....there is a reason it is called that :)
Contact the phone number on the box of color and see what they suggest.
Take the battery out of your dads car tip it over and rub it all over. Either it will lighten your hair color or burn your scalp off!!
if you have a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your house try using some of that...it will gradually fade your hair
if it's honestly black, like the box had a number 1 on it, your not going to be able to fade it. The only thing you can do is keep washing it. However even bleaching black out of your hair is a task and i would NEVER recommend trying it on your own, trust me you will end up orange and red and black and all sorts of colors that you will end up outting black right over to cover it up.
call one of your friends and tell them to go to the store, and that you will pay them back later, and then hopefully things will be better im really blond, and once i died my hair brown on acident
peroxide will remove the black dye but it'll probably make your hair really dry. what you should do is buy a hair color remover such as COLOR OOPS, which can be found at any drugstore or you can buy COLOR ZAP which can be purchased at any beauty supply store. I would suggest using COLOR OOPS because it's less damaging to your hair since it contains no ammonia or bleach. both of these products are around $12. after you use the hair color remover you can dye your hair but since your hair will be porous you should dye it a lighter color than you want because it will come out darker. using a household item might be more convenient but you should use the proper hair products in order to get the best results and to prevent hair damage.
also if you do choose to use peroxide just know your hair will turn orange which means you'll have to go out and buy hair dye anyways.

That would be a huge mistake. I am as hairstylist, and terrible things can happen. Including orange roots and orange spotted hair. It would be a wise decision to seek professional help. Because it will cost you more money to have it fixed after you do it than it would cost you to begin with.
well it will be hard to do....been there many times.....see the thing is at a hairplace they have good toners to get the gross baby chick yellow out, and orange so .....you would have to bleach it 2/3 times for sure and then you could try to get a toner at sally's i use to use one called white lady by i think clairol...and use that with 10% and leave that on no longer then 10 minutes or so...its pretty tricky all of this.... with all the stuff you end up buying you may as well get it done..and get it done right!
I wouldn't recommend it. Generally when you have a dark dye (like black) on your hair and you want to go much lighter, a professional stylist will strip your hair of the old dye before bleaching it. If I were you, I'd either go to a professional or wait until it grows out. Otherwise, you could end up with who knows what color.
You only need to think about that if you have very short hair and/or won't mind cutting it. To get dark brown hair or hair that is dyed a very dark color platinum blond, you are going to have to strip every bit of color out of the strands, and that will be murderous on your hair, especially since it's already been dyed.
If you're set on going platinum, you need to go to a beauty supply store like Sally's and buy powdered bleach and a hi-lift developer, and follow the directions on the package. I'd say 40 or 50 developer for dark, dark hair. You may also want to buy an ash blond toner, because chances are your hair will turn out yellowish. If not, just take the toner back.
You also need to buy a VERY good, moisture-rich conditioner if your hair is longer, because after all that processing, your hair WILL look and feel like hay. Wait 24 hors, then wash and deep condition EVERY DAY to restore the moisture.
I think you should spend the money to get a professional. You are likely to do a lot of damage trying to change it yourself. If cost is an issue, look for a hair stylist training school in your area. Contact them to see if they have services open to the public. If you go that route, be sure to ask for a senior student!
you can . . but its not the smartest idea. ive done ti many times to my hair and ive also ended up with horrible horrible breakage. but if you do decide to do it anyway you'll need lots of blue bleach and dnt use a developer higher than 20 or 30 .. . and use lots of conditioner and toners.
it's up to you really, but if you have black hair and your trying to make the roots blond that would be easy just bleach it once or twice but if your trying to bleach all of your hair then it will never work i tried and it got half my hair bleached and the other orange. So if your trying to do all of your hair, i would go to a professional. sorry. good luck
try doing a hair color stripper a few times then try bleach but make sure you spread them out, like try the color stripper, then after a week try bleech, if you dont spread it out your hair will probably fall out.

An excellent shampoo is Ken Pave's (Walgreens) it's in a blueberry colored plastic bottle and it leaves the hair very well conditioned and very shiny. (I don't like their heavy conditioners though). Their shampoo has no sodium lauryl sulfate so it prevents fading.

I think the color of hair you were born with is best.
It really depends on the face and how light you are talking. For example, an African person would look terrible with lighter brownish hair but would look nice with black-brown. You can't really generalize on this sort of thing. I'm assuming that you're asking about Caucasian people with black hair, since that makes sense. It would look good on someone who's tan but not anyone fair skinned or it will look very unnatural.
If you live in a mostly European/Caucasian area, then black hair might be exotic. If you lived in a mixed community, then probably not.

bleaching over black hair (as you proble know) will be reall hard, and most likely damage your hair incredibly, or it'll fall out. if your going to do it yourself, bleach it once, then wait a week ATLEST before bleaching again (put loads of conditioner on ever night too) your have to walk about with shitty orange hair for quite awhile though.

What you need is a hair color remover, one to strip the hair color. Try the local chemist, they should be able to help you.
Loreal sell one called color zap and so do lots of other brands. Please dont color your hair blonde, it wil do so much damage and could turn your hair orange. You need a hair dye remover. The hairdresser can do this also but its simple enough to do at home.
Since you admit you are "dumb when it comes to" your hair, please go seek a professionals advise. They will know exactly what will and what will not harm your hair and what you should use. LET THEM DO IT.
you really need to go to a salon. it is super hard dealing with blonde at home, especially trying to go black to blonde. you might really damage your hair or be stuck with orange peek a boos. or hair orange all over.

I went from blonde to black, hated the black didnt suit me, so i had to wait for it to fade awhile because dying hair straight away again is not good/healthy for your hair.
I eventually went a few shades lighter (lighter brown) then from brown after a few months went even lighter and just gradually went light enough until it was the colour i could want it (unless i wanted brown)

If your hair grows at a slow rate, youll be waiting at least 6-12 months maybe longer for your hair to be grown out long enough to cut to a decent size.
The only way is to dye it lighter after 2-3 months.
Then wait awhile again and go lighter IF you want to dye your hair.
Unless go a few shades dark/medium brown and then let it grow out a bit but youll be waiting awhile.
was it a cheap dye? if so wash your hair with shampoo for 10 mins 2 times each time scrubbing and wash out then wash with conditioner if its still in repeat till it comes out..
I had black hair, and the only way I could get it out was to go to a professional hair salon(nothing like great clips) and get it stripped out.
then you can dye it what ever color you want when the black is gone.

DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT BLEACHING AND REDYING YOUR HAIR...it will kill your hair and just make it look wiry....You are going to have to let it grow out and cut it and then grow it out some more and cut it again and repeat that process until all the black is gone...it is recommended that you do not color your hair more than once every 3 months...that however does not include having your roots touched up...hope this helps!!

When you just get out of the shower, comb it right a way. Then when it's just about to get dry, comb it again. Of corse, in some circumstances, you would have to use a blow dryer. But, reducing the use of your blow dryer would let the hair time to heal from the heat damage.

Genetics! Your hair color could have come from any of your ancestors. I have a son with red hair. Everyone in my family and my husband's have dark brown or black hair. We think it comes from my husbands great-great grandfather. Maybe that's your case.
Your genes don't just come from your mom and dad, but from all your ancestors. You have Italian, Irish and Native American ancestors: any one of those can be the reason for your black hair.

Well, from the basic standpoint, it probably does seem sort of creepy that you have black hair. Nonethless, if you think about it from a scientific point of view, it possibly can make sense. You said you have a Native American background, right? Well maybe your great great grandmother had black hair just like you. When she had kids and they had kida and they had kids, and so on, maybe the genes just carried down, but were never put as a dominant gene. Therefore, when those genes DID become dominant, you were left with black hair. I hope I helped!

As long as it's only two streaks in one place, lots of people do that, and it looks great (the platinum blonde through black bangs. Kat Von D does it, and so does Stacey London and Amy Winehouse). But I really like chocolate brown for black hair, and darker, but unnatural colors like blue and purple. You could also try just bleaching a couple thick stripes so it turns orange, I have a friend who did that and it looks really good. The possibilities are really endless, as long as it doesn't like streaky (little thin highlights look gross and fade faster).

i dyed my hair about a year agoe and i have tryed to get rid of the dye everysince i have tryed dying it agina to brown it did nothing then i tryed bleaching it to get the color out and dying it after words but that dident work and since my hair is to the middle of my back now half my hair is lighter then the other cuz the black just doesent wanna come out i dont wanna cute my long hair off so besides going to the salon is there anything that i can do my self at home thanks
i see what the problem is. color cant lift color. you cant put a shade on top of black and expect it to be lighter. i suggest you go to a stylist and ask them to strip your hair..remove the color. never buy hair color removing products at any store though...get it done professioanlly.
There is a color remover for your hair at the drug stores that works reallly good.
go to your local hair dresser and ask for your hair to be stripped. DO NOT BUY hair stripper over the counter!! It will totally ruin your hair. Spend alittle extra money and get it done correctly

sigh........sorry to say you really need a professional to correct your color, especially if you don't want to chance damaging your hair, or having to cutting your hair off.
I did this to my hair so many times.. i bought this bleach thing at shoppers drug i think it was called manic panic bleach hair lightener-- it was a power and i mixed it with i think hydrogen peroide and u just put it in ur hair-- u can use a hair dryer to try to lighten it faster..make sure it does not turn orange though-- if not go to a salon -- they will have to bleach it themselves-- less hassle for u but more money

Ok, I Am a licensed beautician, and you have to go to the salon... if you bleach it you risk frying you hair and it just all breaking off, at a beauty salon they are trained to know the effects of bleach on certain hair dyes... if you have the box or know what kind of color it is helpful (you cannot bleach out a metallic hair color, so check that out first) if you put more color on it, it will just get darker... I had a similar issue once, and i slowly had them put highlights in my hair to lighten it up but it is either a slow process or you risk having horrible hair... sometimes black is better than none!!
I think I saw a product not too long ago that removes dye from your hair. I'm not sure if it works or not, but you might want to look for it in your neighborhood drugstore. What I really recommend, though, is going to a good beauty parlor and telling them that you want them to put your hair back the way it was. They will be able to do it, so don't worry.
Dye it pink or green or some other crazy color.
If it doesn't work out, either shave it off, or wear a wig!
Or you can be boring and just go to a beauty salon, and they'll fix it up.
Oh god. It's really hard to dye lighter, especially when it's black. Maybe take baby steps and first dye it dark brown, wait for a few weeks. Then dye it lighter brown, wait for a few weeks. Then dye it the light brown that you want. Or if you don't want to wait, go see a professional.
I have had something like this happen before. You'll have to go to a salon and have a specialist bleach your hair before they can put another color on it. Nothing will cover black so it's the only way to un-do it. I had to to this when my hair was black and I wanted to be more of a brown. It shouldn't be that costly, my salon is pretty cheap about 40-50.
let the black wear down a little. Then when it's not really black anymore- dye it brown unless it's already brown.
Have you tried bleaching it? It will turn it to a reddish-brown then you can dye over it. This will damage you hair but it WILL work. Also, they have a product called "color-oops" but I personally don't think it works too well on black hair. Good luck!
And side note - is it that simple! I've done in a million times in the past (when my hair was short) and my Mom dyes her hair on a regular basis....10 times in one week and her hair is fried but its still all there!
bleach it first, then re-dye it light brown.
go to a professional ONLY!!! you will severly damage your hair if you try to mess with this on your own. this is corrective color and is a very delicate and complicated process. it is no where near as simple as other posters are saying it is.
i have black hair and i bought some red color pulse to try and streak it. sadly i got no luck and i want to know what i could do to make hair dye show in my hair, something i can do at home please! =)
if you have dark hair.. and want a lighter color or anyother color ig purple red, blue.. you have to bleach it in order for it to show up..
you can do it yourself.. but if you never did this before i suggest getting it done. cause you could serious ruin your hair

The only way to make black hair lighter is to bleach it. Cut a little of your hair from the hairline at the back of your head where it won't show, get some light redish blonde dye and test it on it to see if that is the effect you need. You will def need to choose a lighter color than you want in order to lighten black hair. Good luck
take out the color from the black(wait did you dye it black) using revlon color remover and then just dye it over that....i think if you use blonde on where u want to dye you hair red then it works almost as good...or i think it just lightens it for the color
Hello, I am a Asian girl with natural black hair. I've decided to change it up a bit and dye it at home. I plan to bleach the bottom part of my hair blonde. Yet I want to do two colours and need a colour for the top part. I want it to be either red or a light brown but I don't know if it would work. What kind of hair dye product/brand do you suggest for either a red or light brown colour? Also, do you know how to make the colour stay longer? Hope you guys can help out and thank you.
YOU don't dye it . . . go to a salon! Whenever you go from dark to light it is extremely damaging to your hair and a home job could end in complete disaster . . . not to mention the disappointment you'd feel when the blonde ends you coveted turned orange instead.

Hon you really really really need to go to a salon for the bleaching part. Asian hair is VERY VERY difficult to bleach, and because it's so thick, it doesn't bleach evenly. Once you've gotten it professionally bleached, you can color it yourself (well, with some help).
I guess you don't realize just how damaging bleaching is.
You're going to have to bleach it first, otherwise the colours won;t turn out the way you wanted them to.
I would suggest you get the bleaching done at home and then you can use any box of dye to do the colours - but you could try Garnier 100% colour. It has pigments which last longer.
To make it last longer, don't wash your hair every day, and when you do wash it, use a product specially formulated for coloured hair. and rinse with cold water to seal in the cuticle. Use moisturizing products to keep the colour vibrant.
Okay i have tried all home hair colour like actual colour for reds blues and greens etc and colours usually when you do it at home stay in for a couple of days then fade away. I'd reccommenned going to a hair salon but if you are dead-set on doing it at home i heard covering up your hair in foil or somthing and warming it up with a hairdryer makes your colour stay in like 50% longer.
Honestly, I suggest you go to a proffesional to do you hair. Yes it may cost a lil bit more money but atleast they are trained to do color. If you do it yourself not all the time you will come out with a good result but keep it in mind. I had really dark hair and I had a proffesional apply the color, and it looks lovely. It is now really light brown. So yes a great color can be done, and it can be done in whatever colors you like but don't be the "professional" let the proffesional give you what your heart desires.
Well first you bleach it all... then redye the bottom part eitgher bleach it again or use a blonde... becuase your hair is natural black it may be a little tricky to get it all blonde in the 1st shot... the split you hair and put either red or light brown on top... right now my hair is red with black underneath it stands out more than the blond underneath... go to either a local hair store or a wlmart to buy dye there are alot of kinds to chose from... i use revlon it seems to stay in longest for me
As for keeping the color in... it can be tricky.. ive had to dye my hair 3 times before the color didnt fade within a week... but use shampoo for colored hair.. also if you go red they sell things for red hair it helps the color not fade

First off.... I'd really say go for the red on top. Black and brown looks cool, yes, but I'm not a big fan. I think red looks better. Second off, I think any kind of dye will work, but you'd have to bleach it out first. check around on some websites for some special dyes that you can maybe order offline or something,
