Highlights for my black hair...?

I have straight black hair that's about four inches past shoulder length, and side-swept bangs. I want to get natural-looking highlights that blend in, but are still visible. I was thinking a dark to medium auburn color, because I definately want a reddish tone to my hair vs. brown or blonde. Would this look good? Would it blend in or look tacky?

get the auburn =) it will look more natural

A reddish tone would be great - or maybe a purple one (my sister did that and it was great). Just don't go blonde. That would be tacky.

if it's the first time you are trying highlights, maybe go for a more natural look. red or brown would really depends on your skin tones, not just your your black hair.

I would have to see your face to tell you my best answer, yet I've seen that look before. Dark hair with auburn highlights remind of the women who work at Pizza Hut. I'm not a fan of red highlights nor butting highlights on black hair. Why don't you try a medium brown instead. That'll be way cool and not freaky. Or, you could ask your stylist's opinion. Try experimenting for a while. Surely you'll find something nice. Good luck!

I'm not sure but I personaly think it would be cute if you got blonde highlights cuz it looks so cute! :-) But if you are goin' 4 a natrual look what u said would look great! :-)

what i think is cool is like blonde with a tint of auburn, but go for what you like:)

medium auburn color.....it's better than plain red highlights - my friend got red highlights, and she has straight black hair, and they started turning yellow after a while and it looked disgusting. and don't do blonde...that was the mistake i made...i have another friend who has straight black hair with side swept bangs too, and she got blonde highlights, and they are really tacky........
